Mr. Wayne Clifton is a resident of Regina and is Senior Principal of Clifton Associates Ltd., consulting civil and geotechnical engineers, established in 1978. Prior to the formation of Clifton Associates Ltd. he served in the military. He worked as an engineer for two consulting companies and the Saskatchewan Department of Highways. He has also been an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan for several years.Degree received: Doctor of Science
Mr. Clifton graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1963 and an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 1966. He obtained a Diploma and an M.Sc. from the Imperial College of Science and Technology at the University of London in 1967.
He has won several awards for his contribution to the profession and community. •His academic awards include the 1995 University of Saskatchewan Department of Northern Studies Fellowship.
Wayne Clifton has been a professional engineer in Saskatchewan since 1966 and is licensed by the Associations of Professional Engineers of British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. He has been consulted on more than 1000 projects related to geotechnical and environmental issues, including transportation, mining, waste management, and municipal and industrial development. Mr. Clifton has written over several hundred technical reports and his work has been published in numerous journals and conference proceedings. He has given numerous invited lectures, as well as short courses to groups in national and international venues. He has been the keynote speaker at several National and International conferences.
He has actively participated in several overseas trade and technical missions to enhance engineering exchange and trade, Mr. Clifton has supervised several graduate students and has contributed significantly to the training of highly qualified engineers in Canada.
He has participated in more than 10 panels of review and several inquiries relating to transportation, environmental and mining projects. He has been responsible for policy development in areas of groundwater management, land use classification and waste management. He has served on more than 20 boards and professional organizations of which he currently serves 10.
Mr. Clifton has acted as a Director and Vice-President of the Canadian Geotechnical Society where he is Co-Chair of the Geo-environmental Committee. He is Past President of both the Association of Consulting Engineers of Saskatchewan and the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APES) and has served as a Director of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada. He is the Chair of the Awards Subcommittee of the APES and was the Chair of the Consulting Practice Committee. He is Director of Power Greenhouses Inc., a subsidiary of SaskPower dedicated to mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions of thermal power generation. He was one of the chief architects of the Prairie Forum on Women in Engineering in 1991.
Mr. Clifton also has a wide range of community interests. He is Provincial Commissioner of the Boy Scouts of Canada, Governor of the Saskatchewan Baseball Association and President of the Regina Baseball Association. He has served on a fund raising committee of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.
