Eminent Chancellor, I present to you one of Canada's most distinguished daughters. With the resourcefulness of a true pioneer and unshakable faith in the future Miss Ellis prepared herself for a life-time of responsibility and service in the nursing profession.Degree received: Doctor of Laws
She :is known and respected throughout Canada for administration of hospital nursing service and nursing education and no nurse has had a greater influence in nursing affairs.
As registrar of the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association and School of Nursing Advisor, Miss Ellis served well both the interests of the nursing profession and the citizens of Saskatchewan.
In the dark days of the Second World War Miss Ellis was difficult role of National Emergency Nursing Advisor.
It is especially fitting that we honor her at this time when the opening of the University Hospital permits further expansion of the School of Nursing which Miss Ellis, as its first professor, established with foresight and able direction.
To be equally at home in the art and skills of administration and teaching, to have the clearness of vision to build for the future and to live warmly in the hearts of many, represent rare native gifts accorded to few.
Eminent Chancellor, I ask that you confer on Kathleen W.. Ellis the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
