Rare Books Collection

The Rare Books Collection at the University of Saskatchewan Library's University Archives & Special Collections comprises almost 4,000 volumes ranging from medieval manuscripts, to early printed Bibles, to first editions of such literary greats as Dickens, Twain, and Sir Walter Scott, among others. Also included in the Rare Books Collection are paintings and prints by such renowned artists as John James Audubon and William H. Perehudoff, and works in several languages including, but not limited to, Latin, German, French, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese. 

The collection includes first editions, limited editions, works of aesthetic importance, and books subject to loss or mutilation if part of the general collection. Publication dates range from 1491 to the 21st century.

Access: material is fully catalogued and the records are accessible as a browsable list in the on-line catalogue. A title search using “Rare Books Collection” as a title will also generate the complete list of items in the Rare Books Collection. If you use the Advanced Search option, you may combine the aforementioned title search with a word search to limit the results to rare books relevant to your interests.
