February 17 - REVOLUTION
the twenty-eighth day of Freedom
When I was in my late teens, my father expected that I would help him in his business during my two-month summer holidays. What I wanted, however, was to teach archery at a summer camp in exchange for room and board. At the eleventh hour, as friends pulled into our driveway to whisk me off to camp, Dad turned to me and said he would double my wages if I stayed.
I knew that to say 'no' to him would forever separate me from the family business and from his greatest wish -- that I would follow in his footsteps.
I did say 'no', and that was the beginning of my new life in the outdoors. I also knew I was breaking his heart, and that I needed to, in order to follow my own. I didn't know at the time that this decision was pivotal for many aspects of my life. Most importantly, it was the beginning of the path that ultimately resulted in my career as a nature photographer.
Have you ever staged your own revolution? The question to ask is: "Am I coming from a place of clarity and conviction?" If the answer is 'yes', then the decision has already been made.
