The Hans E. Gruen Phycomyces Bibliography is a listing of all references in the scientific literature to the fungi Phycomyces from 1817 to 1980. The database refers to many types of materials including journal articles, books, theses, dissertations, conferences, and patents. Searchers may limit by these material types.
A print collection of entire works, or excerpts from works, accompanies the Phycomyces Bibliography. Availability of the print source is listed in each record. Most items that are not available in the print collection are available in the U of S Libraries collection. Items from the print collection are not available at this time, as they are still being processed.
The Phycomyces Bibliography was created by Hans E. Gruen, a Harvard-trained mycologist who was a member of the Biology Department, University of Saskcatchewan from 1964 until his retirement in 1993. Unfortunately Dr Gruen passed away in 2000, but his scholarship lives on in his publications, one of which is the Phycomyces Bibliography
Scholarship was also required to transform the printed indexes created by Dr Gruen into a ProCite bibliography. This was achieved by Colin Gilker, a Ph.D. student at the U of S during the summer of 2000. The final transformation from ProCite bibliography to a web-based searchable database was effected using the computing expertise of Jamie Fast
