Position Information
Duties

Student employees may perform any of the following duties:

  • Shelving books
  • Book/materials check-in and check-out
  • General patron assistance
  • Book pickups
  • Photocopying
  • Shelf maintenance
  • Ensuring books on shelves are in proper order
  • Minor mending of damaged materials
  • Labelling of materials
 
Training

Formal training for student employees working during the Regular Session (September to April) will occur the last week of August and first week of September. There are a total of two 3hr. training sessions that each student employee must attend. This training is mandatory therefore please ensure that you are available. On-the-job training will also be provided.

There is no formal training for student employees working during the summer.

 
Wage

The wage for student employees is $15.25 to $18.30 per hour.

Positions are part of the Canadian Union of Public Employees' (CUPE) Local 1975, therefore employees pay monthly union dues.

Vacation pay is provided on each paycheque.

 
Hours of Work

There are no guaranteed hours of work. Student Library Assistants who are U of S students will not be permitted to work more than 7 hours per day or more than 80 hours per month. These maximums apply even if the employee is also working elsewhere on campus in either CUPE 1975 or FAPA positions. Student Library Assistants who are enrolled in Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Library and Information Technology diploma program will not be permitted to work more than 7 hours per day or more than 50 hours per month.

Shift schedules will be posted at assigned locations at least one week in advance.
