Description

A database suite comprised of CrossFire Beilstein, CrossFire Gmelin and Patent Chemistry Database (the Library does not subscribe to the latter database). The suite represents a unique, deeply indexed source of experimental data in organic, inorganic and organometallic chemistry. This is a client/server application that requires downloading of client software. "The suite contains:

  • Substances -- Fully searchable chemical structures. Substance records show physical, chemical and bioactivity data – including pharmacodynamics and (eco-)toxicology data from different publications.
  • Reactions -- Fully searchable single and multi-step reactions, many with reaction procedure texts.
  • Citations -- Indexed from the primary organic, inorganic and organomatellic chemistry journal literature going back to 1772 and patent literature.
  • "
  • The suite databases:
    • CrossFire Beilstein -- A unique resource for synthetic scientists: everything from a huge pool of physical property data to workflow tools. It covers core organic chemistry since 1771 and patent publications from 1869-1980.
    • CrossFire Gmelin -- Covers materials science and catalysis research. "It is the only comprehensive, electronically searchable source of reactions, structures, properties and citations from inorganic and organometallic chemistry journals, with sources going back to 1772."
    • Patent Chemistry Database -- The Library does not subscribe to this database.

CrossFire Commander and CrossFire Server are an "integrated client/server application for searching the CrossFire Database Suite. With simple queries, the experimental chemical and physical properties, including electric, magnetic, thermal, crystal and physiological data can be accessed to provide relevant answers to all questions in preparative chemistry."

Access Note:  The CrossFire Suite requires that you download and install an application called the CrossFire Commander.  Please contact the Chemistry Liaison Librarian if you have questions about downloading this application.

Windows

  1. Download Crossfire Commander 7.1 ZIP archive
  2. Extract the archive to a folder of your choice
  3. Run the program "InstallShell.exe" and follow the dialog
  4. The Setup will copy all files into a target directory, which is specified during the Setup process. The Setup will also ask for several parameters which have to be entered:
    • CrossFire Server address: Beilstein.library.wisc.edu
    • CrossFire license group name: uni-sas
    • Article resolver URL: http://sfx.usask.ca/usask
    • Patent resolver URL: http://sc.elsevier.com/xflink
    • Login to this website to view CrossFire user name
    • Login to this website to view CrossFire Password

Macintosh

The current version of Commander does not run on Mac OS X.
