Although she lived in Canada for only four years while her husband was Governor General, Ishbel Maria Marjoribanks Gordon, Lady Aberdeen (Herstory 1985), was the founding president and life long patron of the National Council of Women of Canada. During her short stay in Canada, Lady Aberdeen also found time to be the driving force behind the establishment of the Victorian Order of Nurses (Herstory 1977).
