Fines - Law Library

Law Library Fines

General

Books must be returned by the due date indicated on the slip inserted in the book pocket when the item is signed out. The Libraries will assume unreturned material is missing and will apply the replacement sanctions outlined below.  It is your responsibility to check your own record, return and renew your books on time.

Books

Books are subject to overdue fines at the rate of $1.00 per day to a maximum of $25.00 per item.

Recalled Material

Borrowers who fail to return recalled materials are subject to a fine assessed at the rate of $2.00 per day to a maximum of $50.00 per item.

Reserve Material

Borrowers who fail to return reserve materials are subject to a fine assessed at the rate of $1.00 per hour to a maximum of $50.00 per item.

Replacement Cost for Lost, Damaged or Missing Items

Damage to or loss of material must be reported to the Libraries. The borrower is deemed responsible for the cost of the replacement plus a non-refundable $30.00 processing fee and a $10.00 billing fee. If the lost material has been recalled for use by another borrower and has incurred fines, the outstanding fines will also be charged.
Note:
Unpaid fines may lead to the suspension of borrowing privileges. If students fail to pay their fines, their marks and transcripts will be withheld and they will be prevented from registering in future courses until the fines are satisfied. Unpaid accounts may be referred to a Collection Agency.
