Mail Service & Loan Periods - Distance & Distributed Library Services

It takes approximately one week between the time we receive your request and the time you receive the material. Start your research early in order to receive your materials in a timely fashion. Providing complete information will assist with this process:

For books include author, title, year and call number
For journals include author, article title, journal title, volume/issue/page numbers and call number

Library books and photocopied journal articles will be mailed to you. Books arrive with a postage-paid return label, plus one or more extra return labels if multiple books are shipped. The extra Bill of Lading labels are only needed in the event that a book is recalled.

Should you lose a label, please contact us for another or return your books to one of the following branches offering Distance & Distributed services:

Materials may also be returned in-person to any University of Saskatchewan Library branch.

The loan period is generally five weeks from the signout date, allowing 3 weeks for use and a week at either end for delivery. Borrowers are allowed two renewals, providing that no other requests have been placed on the title. Interlibrary Loans (ILL) are generally three weeks.

Please note that materials from the Reference Collection, Reserve Room, and Special Collections are not available for loan. Theses and dissertations, as well as journals do not circulate. In the case of journals, we will send photocopies of the requested articles. There are no photocopying charges for Distance & Distributed students.

It is important to note that all borrowers are guaranteed a loan period of 7 days, after which the material is subject to recall. Please be aware that fines will accumulate for overdue material ($1.00/day/item) and overdue recalled material ($2.00/day/item). The Library will send all communication to your official University of Saskatchewan email address. See the Email Policy for more information.
