Subjects

Support materials for University studies, various college programs especially social work, high school and literacy materials for the high school entry program. We strive to have a good selection of material to do with Indigenous Peoples in order of priority: Cree, Alberta Natives, Canada, N. America, and the world.

Because our focus is Native Studies we are not weeding out outdated materials on this topic. We are particularly interested in materials to do with education and cultural education support materials.

Description

As well as supplying the needs of the students attending Maskwachees Cultural College, we provide a reference service for the community. We occasionally loan books to non-students who provide guarantees that they will return the material. Our periodical collection is never loaned out. Thanks to the generosity of retiring professors and other donors we are developing an extensive collection in the social sciences. We are accumulating vertical files on topics to do with Native Studies, especially culture, languages, education, Alberta politics and social work. Donations are gratefully accepted.

The audiovisual department of the college has an extensive Living History Collection: 250 hours of videotapes of talks, cultural activities and responsibilities, and autobiographical material created by local elders. Some of the material may be borrowed others require permission of an elder before they may be viewed.

There is also approximately 300 hours of videotape of political and cultural materials to support various Native studies and humanities courses.
