Submitting a Reserve List

Items are not automatically put on reserve from one session to the next. Instructors are encouraged to send in their updated reserve lists before the start of each term. Lists are processed in the order in which they are received, so please submit lists as early as possible.

  • Submit your list electronically by filling in our online form
  • OR print out our .pdf form  and drop it off at the circulation desk of the Natural Sciences Library.
  • Email nslres@library.usask.ca  if you’re unsure or have any questions.

General Information

The Natural Sciences Library accepts four types of material for the reserve collection.

  1. Items in the library’s catalogue – this can include books, journals, CDs and DVDs, maps, etc. When requesting library materials, please make sure to have the call number written down.
  2. Instructor’s copies – these are any items that the library does not own, such as lab manuals or additional copies of textbooks. The course instructor can bring them to the library where they are given a temporary record and call number and then shelved with the rest of the reserve material. They are returned at the end of term.
  3. Paper copies of journal articles or book chapters – scroll down on this link for more information about the library’s policies regarding paper copies.
  4. Links to electronic resources – The library can create links to electronic resources, such as journal articles from the databases to which we subscribe. These links appear on the same page as the rest of a class’ reserve items, making it easier for students to access them. When requesting a link, please make sure to include the complete citation, and permanent link or DOI if possible.

Instructors are asked to choose the loan period that they would like for each physical item from the following options list:

  • 2 Hour In (In-Library Use Only) - Due back exactly 2 hours from time signed out or by closing time the same day, whichever comes first.
  • 2 Hour Out (Circulating Outside the Library) - Due back exactly 2 hours from time signed out or, if the library is closed at that time, 1 hour after opening the next day the library is open.
  • 4 Hour Out (Circulating Outside the Library) - Due back exactly 4 hours from time signed out or, if the library is closed at that time, 1 hour after opening the next day the library is open.
  • 1 Day (Circulating Outside the Library) - Due back exactly 24 hours from time signed out or, if the library is closed at that time, 1 hour after opening the next day the library is open.
  • 2 Day (Circulating Outside the Library) - Due back exactly 48 hours from time signed out or, if the library is closed at that time, 1 hour after opening the next day the library is open.
