Laptop Lending at the Veterinary Medicine Library

What is the Laptop Lending Program?

Campus ITS and the Veterinary Medicine Library are pleased to announce the expansion of the Learning Commons with the launch of a new laptop lending initiative for 2006. Available for loan is one IBM Thinkpad laptop which is configured as a Learning Commons machine and has access to the University of Saskatchewan's wireless network. This means that once connected to the U of S wireless network, the laptop functions as a Learning Commons computer, providing access to a suite of software, email, file storage, personal web pages and online courses.

Who can borrow a laptop?

The laptop is available on a first come-first serve basis to students, faculty and staff of the University of Saskatchewan. Upon presentation of a valid library card (in good standing) and the completion of the Lptop Lending Consent form, the laptop can be taken out of the library for a 6-hour loan period.

What do I need to know about borrowing a laptop?

Laptops can access the campus wireless network at any campus hot spot.

You can save items to your "V" drive.

You will need to sign a consent form outlining your responsibilities when you borrow a laptop.

The laptop comes with an AC adaptor cable, a security lock down cable, a basic operation/information package and a carry case. Please use the adaptor to plug in the laptop (where possible) to save the battery!

NEVER leave the machine unattended at any time! The laptop and all of its accessories are the patron's responsibility while checked out.

The laptop must be returned directly to the staff at the Veterinary Medicine Library circulation desk at the due time or 1 hour before the library closes (whichever comes first) - NO OVERNIGHT CHECKOUTS!

Laptop use is subject to the University of Saskatchewan Computer Use Policy.

Fines for overdue laptops will accrue at the rate of $1.00/hour for each item with a barcode (total of $3.00/hour for the laptop and accessories).

How do I operate the IBM ThinkPad?

The laptop comes with a basic instruction booklet. If you require further assistance the staff at the IT Help desk in the Murray Library will answer your questions or help with computer problems.
