Eyetracking Study Shows F Shaped Pattern - letter FNielsen Norman Group monitored 232 users on 1000's of pages and found that the dominant reading pattern was to scan quickly across in top horizonatal strip, move down and scan horizontally again, but a little less far than the first cross, and finally focus and scan down the left hand side.

What this means is that most users will NOT read most of the text. Your first paragraph matters the most with the second paragraph also being very important. Make sure to make use of the left hand vertical space by starting subheadings and paragraphs with trigger words that give off a strong scent.
