Handy New Tool: MeasureIt, a Firefox Extension

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Snapper, a handy Firefox extension, that has paid back major dividends in terms of saving time.

Status bar icon for measure-it The MeasureIt ruler lets you discover the dimensions in pixels of an area on a web page displayed in your web browser window. Simply click on the little ruler icon in your browser status bar and start dragging to see the ruler in action.

Of course there are lots of other tools that you can use to measure things with. The thing about extensions is that they area almost frictionless to use and close at hand. You have a moments curiousity about the dimensions of something, you just check it out.

Hats off to Kevin A. Freitas who created the first version of this tool in 15 hours.

I love MeasureIt for its quick dimension grabs, though I recently noticed that the Web Developer Extension also has a ruler feature in its incomparable bag of tricks (live CSS and HTML editing, element outlining, validation tools, etc.).
