10 Tech Trends for 2007 from Gartner: 100 million bloggers, cheaper computers, malware will affect 75% of organizations

"Gartner, Inc. released today 10 key predictions that showcase the trends and events that will change the nature of business and IT in 2007 and beyond." [From beSpacific ]

Gartner also released CIO resolutions for 2007 earlier this month. What should CIO's do more of? stop doing? start doing? learn about?

Things to START

1. Create an IT leadership generation succession plan
2. Track and improve the environmental performance of your IT
3. Identify, enable and provide incentives for true innovators

Some of the advice Gartner offers CIO's on developing new leaders applies to libraries:
"Mr Raskino said, “Don’t assume the next generation of IT leadership should look the same as the last. Identify your best generation X people born in the 60s and 70s, then start giving them challenging projects and operational responsibilities to complete their experience".

Things to STOP Doing

1. Returning savings from cost efficiencies
2. Treating IT governance as procedure
3. Obsessing about the minutiae of technology

Some Things to LEARN

IT leaders should take time to experience new technologies including social info/software, virtual communities and more. CIO's need to form their own views first hand.
