The Elusive Autumn - Tracing a Photo Back to Its Place

Elusive Autumn Windows Desktop Photo

Nick Tosches lyrically writes about tracking down the the mysterious origins of the Windows desktop image: Autumn. This is a mystery with a Canadian twist for all my Canuck readers. (Vanity Fair, February 19, 2007 issue)

I discovered this site thanks to Eszter who included this link on her blog.

As the photographer who took the Autumn photo (used in Windows XP) I'm surprised that this has become such a big deal.

Two newspapers have also run articles about it, and a TV station (Global in Ontario) ran a story about it as well.

In any event, I have had my "15 minutes of fame" and it was fun.

What a great story--particularly for someone like me, who uses Autumn as the background both at home and at work (at home, it's simply spectacular on a 19" Sony LCD). Now I know where it came from. Thanks!

Peter - thanks for the links to the other articles.

I think part of what makes this story so special was the journey by the writer to discover who took the photograph and the desire to stand/be in that same spot. I think at some level everyone can relate to seeing a particular photo and wanting to be there at that same moment.
