Meebo Adds a Room With a View

Meebo, a web based instant messaging client, launched a new service, Meebo Rooms, that creates chat rooms where people can play and share playing videos, showing photos, links etc.

Want to share the latest funny video with a friend - watch it together in the chat room! Want to discuss Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us with a class you're teaching via distance ed, create a Room.

Rooms can be public or private. Invite just your friends or allow anyone ot drop in for a talk and a screening or explore a series of items together. Content can be contributed by everyone or just the room owner. Meebo is offering the service free but it is ad supported.

Meebo made it very simple to embed rooms on your web site or blog which will help this new service spread like wildfire.

I can see lots of applications for this sort of tool for teaching and learning, book
discussion groups, how-to training, etc.

What are some ways you think Meebo Rooms might be of use to Libraries? (or not?)

Experimental Room

The room is public but the media content is locked down for now. Not sure how this will work, if it all. But I do want to talk about this book :-) so posting a mini-room on a blog about the book you're reading that ties back to the Room Listings on Meebo may just fit the bill for finding someone who reading the same book at the same time.
