Robert N. (Bob) Kavanagh was born and
raised in Prince Albert,
Saskatchewan, and attended primary and secondary school
there. He
attended the University of Saskatchewan from 1960 to 1966, obtaining the
degrees of B.S. (Electrical Engineering) and M.Sc.
(Bio-Medical
Engineering). He then attended the California
Institute of Technology
from 1966 to 1971, and obtained the Ph.D. degree in
Information Science
in 1972. He returned to the U of
S as an Assistant Professor of
Computational Science from 1971 to 1978, when he became
Director of
Academic Computing Services. From August 1986 to May 1992
he was
Associate Vice-President of Information Technology
Services. Since May
1992 he has been Associate Vice-President and Director, Department
of
Computing Services. He also is
an Associate Professor of Computer
Science.
He has served as a member of the Board
of Directors of TRLabs
Inc., as a
director of the Health Systems Support Group in
Saskatchewan and the
Apple
Canada Education Foundation .
He is currently Chair of
Saskatchewan Research Network Inc. In his spare time he
pursues several
hobbies, including wood-working, photography, golf,
cross-country skiing
and hiking. He is married to Carol and they have two
children.
