Valerie Steeves
Valerie Steeves is the Director of the
Technology and Human Rights Project at the Human Rights Research and Education Centre, University of Ottawa. She has taught in the field of technology and law for 8 years. In 1997, she served as a Special Advisor to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Rights and the Status of Persons with Disabilities where she organized and facilitated a series of national public consultations on privacy rights and new technologies. Professor Steeves has written and spoken extensively across the country on human rights and technologies issues, addressing topics such as "A Better Roadmap for the Information Highway: Critical Human Rights Issues in the Access and Privacy Field", "Privacy and the Private Sector: Legislation vs. Codes and Policies" and "The Clash of Technology and Human Rights". Professor Steeves was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1984 and practiced law in Toronto until she began teaching in 1990. |
