A doctoral graduate in law and political/economics science of Athens University who has also studied at Cambridge, London, and Heidelberg, Dr. Daes currently is chairperson of the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit - one of the highest posts in that international body.
She has served as a senior Supreme Court advocate (1953-1989) and has represented Greece at the UN General Assembly.
She is a member of a UN sub-commission set up to protect minorities; chairs a UN working group on indigenous populations; is a visiting professor at the European University Institute; and is a collaboratrice of the Hellenic Institute of International and Foreign Law.
She is the author of a number of articles in prestigious publications dealing with such matters as war crimes, self-determination for minorities and their treatment in Europe, a draft constitution for a new Europe, and an international bill of human rights.
She has also written 'The Revocation of Adoption' (in Greek) and 'Dissolution of Adoption' (in English).
