Eminent Chancellor, I present to you Minoru Yamasaki, Bachelor of Architecture, Doctor of Architecture, Doctor of Fine Arts, Doctor of Humanities, Doctor of Humane Letters.
Mr. Yamasaki is a man of many parts. As an architect he has been associated with the design of many famous buildings. He has designed buildings for University campuses such as Wayne State, Butler and Harvard, and for civil authorities all over the world, such as the St. Louis Air Terminal, the Drahran Civil Airport Terminal Centre in Saudi Arabia, the United States’ Pavilion at the World Agricultural Fair in New Delhi and the World’s Fair held at Seattle. He has been engaged in town planning projects such as the LaFayette Park in Detroit, the Queen Emma Gardens in Honolulu and in our own Wascana Centre project, involving City, Government and University.
Mr. Yamasaki shows a fine sensitivity both in his design of individual buildings and in his master planning for a given region. His exceptional skill as an architect and designer has been recognized by numerous awards - Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, University of Washington’s ‘Most Distinguished Alumnus’ in 1960, numerous honorary degrees, medals and citations.

The Province was sing1ar1y fortunate in being able to present Minoru with a challenge worthy of his talents, which led him to produce the imaginative Wascana Centre master plan and later to design three magnificent buildings for the University. We are forever in his debt.
Eminent Chancellor, on behalf of the Council and Senate of this University, I ask that you confer the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, on Minoru Yamasaki, architect extraordinary.
