Dr. V. Mohan Malhotra is well known for his outstanding contributions in the vast field of concrete technology, especially in the area of non-destructive testing, the use of superplasticizers, supplementary cementing materials, and more recently in the field of high-performance concrete with high-volume fly ash and blast-furnace slag. He has contributed greatly to the use of industrial waste in the concrete industry. These contributions are of global interest because of their economic, energy, and sustainability implications. As well as authoring over 100 papers published in refereed journals of the ACI, ASTM, RILEM, and CSCE, he has organized and chaired more than 60 international conferences; published as an author or co-author six books on concrete technology, superplasticizers and supplementary cementing materials. In recognition for his innumerable contributions, Dr. Malhotra has received numerous awards from the most respected institutions in the concrete field.

Dr. Malhotra is honorary member, American Concrete Institute, U.S.A., honorary member, Concrete Society, U.K., honorary member, Brazilian Concrete Institute, honorary fellow, Institute of Concrete Technology, U.K., fellow, Engineering Institute of Canada, and fellow, Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.

Dr. Malhotra’s professional record is also impressive. He graduated in Sciences from Delhi University, India, in 1951; in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia, in 1957; received the Doctor of Law (Hon.) from the University of Dundee, Scotland, in 1984, and the Doctor of Engineering (Hon.) from the University of Nuevo Leon, México, in 1998. In 1962 he joined CANMET Department of Natural Resources, Ottawa, Canada, where he pursued his career culminating with the title of Scientist Emeritus in 1999. In 1993, Dr. Malhotra received the Government of Canada Commemoration Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.

In recognition of his contributions to the cement and concrete worldwide, the American Concrete Institute (The world’s leading association in the area of cement and concrete) issued the following proclamation in November 2012.

“We recognize V. Mohan Malhotra for his contributions not only to the institute, but to worldwide concrete community through his tireless efforts to expand ACI’s international reach and influence, his efforts with chapters throughout the world, and his efforts in the many International Conferences which he has organized; And we are proud to consider V. Mohan Malhotra as an ACI’s Ambassador to the World”.
