Special Collections in Canada

The following is a list of Special Collections of various types in Canada. Where possible, links to the library's catalogue have been added. Provinces are listed east to west, followed by the three territories.

  • The Canadian Heritage Information Network of the Department of Canadian Heritage provides an "information gateway to museums, galleries, and heritage in Canada and around the world." This site provides information about, and links to, many special collections across Canada; some of these collections are of artifacts or art objects rather than, or in addition to, books or other library materials.
  • Canadiana.org, formerly the Canadian Institute for Historical Microreproduction and Alouette Canada, is 'committed to a coordinated and sustained program to digitize Canada's documentary heritage and provide easy online access'.
  • Early Canadiana Online (ECO) is a full-text and fully searchable reproduction of more than 3000 titles from the CIHM collection. Each page can be viewed onscreen or downloaded as a PDF document.
  • The Rare Book Collection of the National Library of Canada focuses on Canadiana. Archival collections in Canada can be accessed through Archives Canada.
