The Peter Bietenholz Rare Book Collection

April 2010 - December 2010
Location: Special Collections Reading Room, Third Floor, Murray Buliding
Curated by: David Bindle, Special Collections Librarian and Joel Salt, Special Collections

The Peter Bietenholz Rare Book Collection was donated by Peter and Doris Bietenholz to the University of Saskatchewan Library before they moved away to Vancouver. The collection contains several rare books that are many hundreds of years old, including 16th and 17th century translations of important authors like Ovid, Horace, Julius Cæsar, Machiavelli, Plutarch and Erasmus. The exhibit shows off especially handsome editions with fine gilded spines, moroccan leather, fine illustration, or other notable features. Until the library has catalogued the collection, you may view the details of it here. To examine the books in person come to Special Collections on the third floor of the Murray Library.
