June 3 - THE COMMUNICATOR

the thirteenth day of Enchantment

The book, The Secret Life of Plants, suggests that all of nature is in constant communication. As I peered in the pool today it looked like the birch trunks were having a grand conversation, although the one on the right looked somewhat disinterested, turning away from the huddle. Who knows what the trees were communicating but they seemed to be conversing with passion and conviction, coming from a place of happiness.

Communication happens on many levels, including words, tone of voice, body language, observing, writing -- all ways that convey meaning or a shared understanding. To be an effective verbal communicator requires the honing of both listening and speaking skills. For me, deep listening involves suspending judgment and analysis, while speaking requires focus and openness. Practicing both of these fosters a level of understanding and sharing that brings forth the real meaning of communing - which is to share.

The question I ask myself is "Am I an effective communicator?" Was my writing today an effective communication? How about you? You might want to practise your skills by sending an e-card to a friend and create your own huddle.
