JUSTICE REFORM COMMISSION HEARING PRESENTATIONS ON
TUESDAY
SASKATOON – The Commission on First Nations and
Metis Peoples and Justice Reform will hear three presentations tomorrow.
"We are anxious to hear from these groups and
look forward to what they have to say as we move closer to writing our second
interim report," said Commission chair Willie Littlechild. "The first-hand
knowledge of the justice system and where it has failed Aboriginal people will
be front and centre."
On Tuesday, October 29, the Commission will hear
from Jeanette Bugler who will be presenting on behalf of the White Buffalo Youth
Lodge Elders and Prison Families. The meeting will take place at the
Saskatchewan Native Theatre, 228 – 20th Street West in Saskatoon
between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 noon. This event is open to the media and the
general public.
The Commission will then meet with the Federation
of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Special Investigation Unit and the Children’s
Advocate Office. The presentation from Special Investigations will be heard
between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. and the Children’s Advocate Office will be heard
beginning at 2:45 p.m. Both presentations are open to the public and media.
