The Northian and Northian Newsletter

Initiated by SINE and developed through the INEProgram and the Indian and Northern Curriculum Resources Centre

A quarterly journal, The Northian offered articles on cross-cultural education in general, but was specifically concerned with First Nations and northern education. It was the first such journal of its kind in Canada, but was international in scope.

In its inaugural issue, a blunt statement was given regarding the potential success of The Northian Newsletter: “Without your support, a newsletter of this nature cannot exist. News and ideas, to a large extent, must come from educators in the field. A sharing of this sort must surely be beneficial to all.”  A newsletter “devoted entirely to Indian and Eskimo education,” it was anticipated that the newsletter would be “a pertinent source of information re: curriculum developments, current trends and happenings, conventions, institutes, workshop reports, practical classroom ideas, teaching units, regional news, and teacher comments and views on all aspects of Indian education.”
