USearch Improvements

You may have noticed some changes to USearch over the past week as we have updated to the newest version.

You may have noticed some changes to USearch over the past week as we have updated to the newest version.

USearch will work much the same as before, but we have made two changes to the interface based on usability testing with students in Murray Library:

  1. Sign In Alert
You will now see an alert message urging you to sign in to see everything the library has to offer.
    USearch Login Alert
Logging into the library website or Paws using your NSID is not the same as being signed in to USearch. There are some online journals that do not show up in your USearch results unless you have signed in at the USearch screen. To make sure you are seeing everything you have access to as a member of the University Library community click on the blue "Sign In" link in the alert everytime you use USearch.
Quick Tip: Signing in to USearch also lets you save your results and your search terms.

  2. Search Result Filters
On the results page you will notice that we have simplified and reorganized the search filters along the left side of the screen to make them easier to use. Now the filters that are used the most by our students are front and centre.
Based on our usability testing with student in the Murray library and usage statistics from the Fall 2014 & Winter 2015 semesters the most commonly used search filters were: 1) peer-reviewed articles, 2) full text online, 3) year, 4) material type.
