iPortal featured resource: Indigenous information literacy

This series of short instructional videos created by Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Indigenous & Anthropology subject liaison librarian Rachel Chong provides instruction in areas related to Indigenous information literacy.

The topics covered in these short explanatory films include:

  • Respectful research involving Elders
  • Academic citation formats for knowledge gained through conversations with Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • Source evaluation
  • Compliance with TCPS2 guidelines for “Research Involving the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples of Canada

While these videos are designed specifically for students at KPU and with localized, place-based protocols in mind, they provide excellent frameworks for structuring an approach to Indigenous information literacy.
