Re-using figures without seeking permissions or paying extra fees

Did you know that USask authors do not always need to ask for permission, or pay an extra fee, to re-use a published figure or image in their own publications?

Scholarly authors often re-use figures or other images from published articles in their own works, with proper attribution of course. If these works are also being published then the author would typically seek permissions from the copyright holder and sometimes even pay a fee. This can be time-consuming (and expensive!).
