Leadership opportunity

The Library is seeking Peer Mentors for the 2023/2024 academic year to assist USask students with their academic success. Students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are interested in this opportunity can apply before March 3, 2023. More information can be found on our Become a Peer Mentor page.

About peer mentoring

Peer mentors work with Learning Specialists, Librarians, staff, and professors on a variety of projects and initiatives serving USask students, including:

  • Learning Communities in AgBio or Kinesiology, working with first year students as they transition to the university (5 hours per week for Term 1 only)
  • Structured Study Sessions in some large 1st-year courses that can be challenging. In 2023-24, we anticipate offering these sessions in Biology 120, Chem 112, and Physics 115/117 (8-10 hours per week)
  • Academic Skills workshops for undergraduate students (5 hours per week)
  • Transition to Grad School workshops for graduate students (5 hours per week)

Undergraduate and graduate students can offer academic support to their peers, and, in so doing, enhance student academic engagement.  In return for working with academic peer support programs, peer mentors receive:

  • leadership experience
  • ongoing training and support
  • a strengthened sense of the campus community
  • belonging in a cohort of like-minded student peer mentors
  • notations on their Co-Curricular (CCR) transcripts for training components and their volunteer roles
  • an honorarium

Interviews take place in March 2023. Please apply before 11:59 pm on March 3, 2023.
