USearch at the library is evolving: what you need to know for December 2024

Here’s how to stay connected to your library resources during the USearch upgrade.

In December 2024, the University Library will be updating USearch and the system that links to electronic resources (eJournals and articles). The impact of this update will be that links that include "sfx.usask.ca" and "primo-pmtna02.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com" in the URL will stop working in January 2025.

Our library collections and subscriptions to eResources have not changed, but the way you connect to full-text versions is changing.

You can easily replace SFX links with permanent links to the same resources using the Direct Persistent Links tool to create a link from a DOI (preferred) or a URL. Permanent links ensure that you are logged in as a USask community member and have access to full-text licensed electronic resources.

After Dec 9th, USearch will automatically generate new permalinks using the correct URL format. You may have to search for library items you have saved or bookmarked to update your links.

If you have links to books, eBooks or print journals, you can use the permanent link from the University Library Catalogue. These links that include "sundog.usask.ca" will not change during this update.

In addition, with the changes to the USearch system, unfortunately, "My Favorites" settings, including saved records and saved searches, will not automatically migrate to the new version of USearch. You can export your saved records and searches now and recreate them in the new USearch system starting December 9.

While the new system will launch on December 9, you will have access to log in to the old version of USearch to export your saved records until January 2025
