Literacies in Community

Interested in developing new skills to help build your resume? Looking to learn more about the community... and yourself?

Consider participating in Literacies in Community!

Literacies in Community is a community service-learning partnership between the University Library and Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan. You’ll provide literacy support to elementary school children as a Reading Guide in Foundations Learning’s Spark program and learn from Saskatoon community leaders in reflective sessions guided by University Library Staff.

Along with a rich service experience, you will explore aspects of literacy, information privilege, and community. As an active participant, you will receive a designation on your co-curricular record upon completion of the program.

Requirements

  • Complete a criminal record and vulnerable sector check (fee waived when accompanied by a letter from Foundations Learning).
  • Watch recorded Foundations Learning orientation (1 hour).
  • Participate in three hours of Reading Guide Training from Foundations Learning.
  • Meet with elementary school students to provide 30 minutes of tutoring, twice a week for eight weeks.
