Temporary USearch issues and workarounds
Library staff are aware of issues related to searching in USearch and are working to resolve them. Workaround options are available.
The University Library recently upgraded its USearch platform as well as the backend system that links to our print and electronic resources. Library staff are aware of some ongoing issues related to this upgrade and are actively working with the vendor to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. Below are some common errors which we’re aware of, and workaround options to find the resources you need.
Finding print books and ebooks
When searching for books in USearch, you may come across search result records with a link saying to “Check for available services”. Clicking on that link then shows that there are no services available for this item.
However, if you scroll down to the bottom of the book’s record, there will be a “Check availability” section which indicates the actual availability of the book. You can click on the library location link to go to the catalogue record for full and current availability options.
A workaround to search for print and electronic books is to use the Library Catalogue instead of USearch.
Searching for articles by title
In some instances, searching for an online article by title in USearch brings up no results, even when we do have access to the item. Here are two workarounds to confirm whether we should have access to the item.
- Search by journal title in the Electronic journals search to see if we have online access to that journal. If it is available online, click on the database link to go into the journal archive.
- Search for the article by title using Google Scholar. If you have your settings enabled to show USask links, you will be able to access the articles through our subscriptions by clicking on the “Get it @ USask Library” link.
