Notes: Poundmaker (1826-1886), a Cree chief, commanded the Indians at the battles of Cut Knife Creek and Batoche during the Riel Resistance. He surrendered to Major General Frederick Middleton in 1885 after the capture of Riel. This brief article describes his imprisonment and the various spellings of his Indian name.
