Notes: A translation of a chapter from Marcel Giraud's Le Métis Canadien (Paris, 1945). He describes the economic and social problems the Métis faced after the Resistance. Some fled to the U.S., while those who stayed were thrown into poverty. A few, however, were able to adjust to white society and became successful in agricultural and commercial activities.
