An edited collection of the telegrams exchanged between Adolphe Caron, the Minister of Militia and Defence and commanders, officers, contractors and various bystanders in the field. Most of the telegrams pertain to the administrative features of the campaign. The value of the telegrams according to Morton, is that "we can learn more about the motives and plans of Middleton and his subordinates from their telegrams than from their subsequent official reports and published accounts."
