Fetherstonhaugh received the approval of the RCMP headquarters and Major General James H. MacBrien to write his sympathetic history of the RCMP. He has a brief chapter on the military activities of the NWMP during the Rebellion of 1885. He points out the conflict between General Middleton and Superintendent Crozier, and the criticism the police received from the government in handling the Batoche engagement.
