Marie Hamilton's chapter on the 1885 Resistance is based on her experiences and reminiscences as a young woman living in Regina. In her examination of the causes of the Resistance, she comes to the conclusion that the Canadian government was to blame for the hostilities because it refused to address the legitimate grievances of the Métis and Indians. Most of her account pertains to the excitement Riel and the Resistance caused in Regina.
