Notes: Robert Jefferson, the government instructor on Poundmaker's reserve, describes the conditions on the reserve and the problems with insufficient food during the early 1880s. He points out that the Indians were prepared to resist any encroachment on their free will. Also, he gives a detailed account of Major Crozier's efforts to arrest agent John Craig's assailants and to prevent Indians from marauding and raiding government stores.
