The Department has recently made available an index to a collection of 921 vintage photographs dealing with the early history of professional wrestling in Canada and the USA. Dating principally from the entertainment’s Golden Age (1950 to 1970), the collection features black and white promotional shots of performers - babyfaces and heels, girl wrestlers and midgets - as well as ring action shots. The list of images may be searched by keyword, by the nationalities and/ or the ‘gimmicks’ assumed by the wrestlers, and by the names of photographers and wrestling promotions when known. Download the complete index here. These photographs are part of a very large collection devoted to professional wrestling history donated in 2010 by collector Neil Richards as an addition to materials previously deposited concerning the history of cross-dressed entertainment. (MG 355). Read more about the Neil Richards pro wrestling collection.
