Prisoner Release [as early as July 3 Hanoi announced that three prisoners would be released to a delegation of three US antiwar activists: Stewart Meacham, Anne Scheer, and Vernon Grizzard. The three met during a stopover in Paris with Amb. Harriman and with the North Vietnamese delegation to the Paris peace conference. There was confusion as to when the prisoners would actually return; as of Aug. 1 they were still in Hanoi. There was also some question as to whether statements made by the pilots upon their release were entirely voluntary. Background information is given on the three American activists].
