Title: | Comment on Ken Hatt, the North-West Rebellion Scrip Commissions, 1885-1889 |
Published: | [Regina, Sask.] : University of Regina, Canadian Plains Research Center, |
Notes: | In: 1885 and after : native society in transition / edited by F. Laurie Barron and James B. Waldram. p.205-10. Flanagan's response to Ken Hatt's paper which "reads in part like a review of his book "Riel and the Rebellion: 1885 Reconsidered." Flanagan is critical of Hatt's treatment of the topic. He discusses the interpretation of the order-in-council of 28 January which established the Scrip Commission of 1885, and points to the need for a study of the Métis scrip market to determine whether the Métis were exploited by sharp operators or not. |
