Published: | [Regina, Sask.] : University of Regina, Canadian Plains Research Center, 1986. |
Notes: | In: 1885 and after : native society in transition / edited by F. Laurie Barron and James B. Waldram. p. 23-38. Dickason compares the Micmac wars against the British in Nova Scotia between 1713 and 1763 with the Riel Rebellions of 1869-70 and 1885. She argues that "the fundamental nature of the conflicts was the same, that of people fighting an intruding power for their lands and for their right to self-determination...." She also points out that in both cases the Natives failed, especially as "political entities with power." |
