About

This collection supports the Indigenous Education and Indigenous Studies programs in the College of Education. It includes resources in multiple formats including books, videos, sound recordings and Treaty Kits.

We are actively adding materials to the collection focusing on current materials, earlier influential works, and books by Indigenous authors. We welcome suggestions of materials to add to this collection using our request a purchase form.

During summer 2023, the name of this collection was changed from the Aboriginal Education Collection to the Indigenous Education Collection as part of our efforts to decolonize our institution and make library spaces and collections safe and welcoming for all. This work included changing signage, book labels, and records in our digital catalogue.

Imagery

The imagery that appears in the signage and online about this collection is from the Kevin Peeace mural "Our teachers are our ancestors" that hangs in the Education and Music Library.

This original artwork is licensed by the University Library and all imagery is Kevin Peeace.

Colourful mural created by Kevin Peeace. The mural depicts ancestors in the sky looking down on multiple figures on the earth reading and reaching for stars. The mural hangs on the wall in the Education and Music Library with tables and chairs in the foreground.
