The collections mandate for University Archives and Special Collections is focused on the acquisition, preservation, and accessibility of permanently valuable records of the University of Saskatchewan; and of books, journals, manuscripts, archival collections and printed ephemera of a rare, valuable or regional nature. The collections include materials relating to Saskatchewan, Western Canada, and the University of Saskatchewan, including works by university authors.

Services

University Archives and Special Collections provides services for researchers including research assistance, distance research services, reproductions, and archival citation assistance.

Campus History

Campus History brings together resources about people, events, buildings, and other highlights in the history of the University of Saskatchewan. This is a good first stop for quick facts or you are interested in delving into the history of this campus and community.

We are in the process of moving this information to the new website format. In the meantime, explore campus history on the original archives site

Exhibitions

University Archives and Special Collections curates rotating exhibitions throughout the Murray Library: in the Link Gallery on the first floor, in our reading room on the third floor; and near Starbucks on the ground floor. The Link Gallery space is our major exhibition space, with three to four exhibitions per year. All our exhibitions feature University Archives and Special Collections' rare and unique materials, whether highlighting a single collection or bringing together several collections to explore historical and cultural themes.

Digital Projects

University Archives and Special Collections has been creating digital projects and virtual exhibits since the dawn of the web - over 50 at last count, including inter-institutional collaborations. Most of these sites are thematic exhibits, while some feature comprehensive digitization of selected collections. In all cases, they represent a useful way to explore some of our unique collections.

University Archives and Records Management

A core mandate of University Archives and Special Collections is the acquisition, preservation, and accessibility of permanently valuable records of the University of Saskatchewan. This mandate is closely tied to the management of current institutional records. Good records management practices help ensure that vital records are preserved, avoid ad hoc destruction of records, and the regular transfer of records to University Archives and Special Collections.

Donations

Donations of archival materials (manuscripts, diaries, photographs, audio and video recordings, maps, digital records, etc.), as well as books and other published/printed materials are key to the enhancement and continued growth of University Archives and Special Collections.
